Tools

The tools that belong next to a zone.

Everything you need while you are working on DNS, in the same place as the zone itself. The wider CTPF toolbox lives at tools.ctpf.network.

Zone work

The zone editor is the centre of it.

Records are typed, validated before they are written, and every change raises the serial and notifies the secondaries by itself.

Editor

Zone editor

All record types, validation on save, serial handled for you, NOTIFY sent automatically. Templates for the records every domain should carry.

Import

Zone import and export

Bring a zone file in from your current provider, or take yours out at any time. Nothing is locked in.

Compare

Migration check

Compares the zone here against the one still live at your old provider, record by record, before the delegation is switched.

Checks

Answer the question before the customer asks it.

  • DNS lookupAny record type, against a nameserver you choose — including ours, one by one.
  • Propagation checkThe same query put to all four nameservers at once, so you see who is still behind.
  • Zone testChecks a zone for the things that break mail and TLS: missing SPF, no CAA, broken MX, wrong SOA contact.
  • SPF, DKIM, DMARCReads the published records and says whether they actually pass, not just whether they exist.
  • DNSSEC checkValidates the chain from the parent down to the zone, once signing is active for a domain.
  • Reverse lookupPTR for an address, and whether forward and reverse agree.
  • WHOISRegistrar, status and expiry for a domain.
  • Ping and tracerouteFrom our locations towards a host of yours, when a name resolves but nothing answers.
  • Nameserver statusLive reachability of the nameservers in Frankfurt, Amsterdam, London and Los Angeles, measured from outside.

Where the rest lives

Tools that are not about DNS — the general CTPF toolbox — are collected at tools.ctpf.network. What stays here is what you need with a zone open in front of you.

API

Everything the panel does is available over the API, so the same checks can run in your own pipeline instead of in a browser tab.
